Women’s Soccer Advances to National Championship Match
Tampa knocked off top-ranked Grand Valley State in the National Semifinal match by a score of 2-1. The win means UT will advance to the National Championship game for the first time in Tampa women’s soccer history.
Marissa Mohammed opened up the scoring in the 17th minute with an assist from Emily Stack.
Marissa “Reesey” Bernard gave Tampa a 2-0 lead in the 43rd minute on a rebound.
Grand Valley cut the lead to one with a goal in the first minute of the second half by Ashley Elsass. Katy Tafler, the nation’s leading scorer, assisted Elsass’s goal.
Grand Valley eliminated Tampa in the 2006 National Semifinal match by a score of 2-0. Tampa has never advanced to the national championship game for women’s soccer.
Tampa will face the winner of second-ranked Seattle Pacific vs. 16th-ranked Franklin Pierce.
