SEVEN SPARTANS JOIN MLB Jonathan Holt, Ryan Kennedy, Johnny Williams, Scott Leffler, Roberto Mena and Craig Corrado were selected in the Major League Baseball amateur draft this summer. This was the highest number of UT players ever selected in a draft. Chris Rosenbaum signed a free-agent contract with the LA Angels of Anaheim.

BERKELEY, Calif. - Jack White has things completely under control. In his world, however, this means that utter failure and chaos lurk right around the corner. For every album he's made as one half of the White Stripes, he's set limitations: 2001's "White Blood Cells" couldn't have guitar solos, 2003's Elephant used no equipment made before 1960, and 2005's "Get Behind Me Satan" was intentionally recorded while half the album's songs remained unfinished.

PHILADELPHIA - Next time you think about grabbing that sugary snack, you might want to think again. Research conducted at the University of New Hampshire of 800 undergraduate students showed that not only is excess fat a problem plaguing college students, but many of them have high blood pressure and high cholesterol and suffer from a deficiency of nutrients such as fiber, calcium and iron.

After 11 years of service at The University of Tampa as Registrar, Leslie Sutton-Smith will launch her new career as acting Registrar for Harvard Law School on July 23. In June 1996 Sutton-Smith became Registrar at UT. She had been searching for jobs in Florida after her parents decided to retire in Sarasota.

IOWA CITY, Iowa - A study done by researchers at the University of Missouri, using a test developed at the University of Iowa, has correlated heavy binge drinking with diminished decision-making over time. The study, published in the June edition of Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, compared 200 randomly sampled individuals from a larger group of Missouri college students who voluntarily reported their drinking frequency during their freshman through their junior years.
