The University of Tampa men's soccer team defeated Eckerd College 4-2 on Homecoming night. The game drew one of the largest crowds in recent history, as 758 fans packed Pepin/Rood Stadium. The marketing team did a great job of coordinating the event.

After losing to Eckerd College in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference tournament last year and losing SSC Player of the Year Mark Borders, it would be easy for the men's basketball team to write off this season as a rebuilding year. But coach Richard Schmidt is confident that his team will be able to compete at a high level this season.

'Da Birds defeated Discovered, 20-19, to win their third consecutive intramural flag football championship last week. The championship game had one of the most exciting finishes in recent intramural history. With just under a minute left, 'Da Birds quarterback Christian Pfluger threw a 50 yard touchdown bomb to tie the game at 19.

It is rare to find siblings that are talented enough to play with each other on a top Division II college team. It is even less common when the siblings are identical twins. But to have three sets of identical twins competing in college athletics at one university is impossible, right? No, in fact, they were all part of the same recruiting class.

For many students who traveled south to attend the University of Tampa it meant giving up some of their favorite sports and activities. There is no skiing, and there are only a few ice skating and hockey rinks in the area. Diehard hockey fan Brett Kotcher is opening a few doors to those who are still interested in the game of hockey.

The University of Tampa and Florida Southern College have perhaps the biggest rivalry in Division II sports. UT and FSC are located just 36 miles from each other, and both schools are part of the Sunshine State Conference. It seems like no matter what sport these two teams are playing against each other it is always a close contest.

The University of Tampa baseball team gathered with fans inside the Spartan Club on Friday to celebrate their 2006 National Championship victory. IFC President Steve Martinez and Joe Pronesti coordinated the event, which included video from the National Championship game and a few words from the players and coaches.

Tampa soccer coach Adrian Bush has had his ups and downs with the Spartans in his first two years as head coach. Bush took over the head coaching duties in 2005 after the untimely death of his mentor and former coach Tom Fitzgerald. "He was like a second dad to me," said Bush.

The University of Tampa baseball team defeated the Saint Leo University Lions 13-3 on a windy Tuesday night at Sam Bailey field. Although the game was against fellow Sunshine State Conference member Saint Leo it did not count towards conference standings.

MJ: Where did you grow up, and did you have any brothers or sisters? SP: I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and I have one brother who is 10 months older than me. He goes to school at the Air Force Academy and plays football there.
