By Career Services: Focus on Small Companies for Jobs

The annual spring internship at the Univeristy of Tampa was recently held in Fletcher Lounge where students had the opportunity to meet with 57 possible employers. Internships present an efficient way to expand experience beyond the classroom and furthermore conduct networking. Doing at least one internship while in college, students have an advantage over other graduates. Almost 80% of college graduates in the U.S. did at least one internship as undergraduate student. 'Without one meaningful Internship, it is harder to get a job.'Harding said. Companies still have job openings and often look at their pool of internships to recruit from, since they are already aware of their skills. Harding also advises students to talk to company representatives and not concentrate on larger companies. 'Small and medium sized companies offer students more opportunities and responsibilities then big corporations,' Harding said."
