As most students slept on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 29, University of Tampa freshman Natasha Sackett fought for her life after a car hit her scooter on Kennedy Boulevard in front of UT. Now four months after her accident, Sackett is still battling. The accident left her with two severe breaks in one leg, a brain injury, substantial facial fractures and a lacerated liver.

The Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County was the foundation behind the 2007 Homeless Census project that took place in Hillsborough County Jan. 25. Teams of three gathered and spread themselves through the four districts in which the homeless venture during their daily routines.

UT administrators enforced a 30 minute time change for Tuesday/Thursday morning courses ostensibly to accommodate for classroom space in the school's growing community. Many UT students were surprised to see 8:00 a.m. classes on their schedule as opposed to the usual 8:30 a.

Various topics emerged last weekend at the Asian Regional Security Symposium, but North Korea's recent nuclear weapon testing remained at the center of discussion. UT's Assistant Professor of Government and World Affairs Maria Rublee received a grant from the Center for Global Partnership at the Japan Foundation that allowed for the Symposium to take place.

How many of you have said, 'I want to be famous'? asked UT sophomore Jeff Wells at the opening of UT's annual Speech Contest. The participants this year put no limits on the creativity of their speech topics. Assistant Professor of Speech Christopher Gurrie coordinated the contest, which was held on the second floor of Plant Hall.

The success of the newly added Homecoming '06 event, Chalk the Walk, promoted school spirit and team work from the organizations and individuals who participated. UT student Katie Govin brought forth the idea to this year's Homecoming Board. "In high school I [did] this event, and it went over really well," said Govin.

The student body appears to be divided in terms of being satisfied with how financial aid is distributed here at the university. When choosing a college to attend, financial assistance is high on the list for most. Second-year UT student Stephanie Dutka choose the University of Tampa because more financial aid was given to her in comparison to the other state schools she applied to.
