Facebook has not only become popular amongst students, but companies are checking in as well to get their first look at who their hiring. "I have a friend that got denied a job because they felt he wasn't mature enough after looking at his Facebook profile," said UT senior Michael Bucciarelli.

Statistics show that 1 in 4 college students deal with a mental health issue. That's 1,401 students here at UT who may be already suffering. Young adults aged 18 -24 have the highest prevalence of diagnosable forms of mental illness at 27 percent, according to the National Mental Health Institute (NIMH).

Shortly before Thanksgiving Break, one of UT's newest organizations presented its own rendition of giving. "Up 'Til Dawn" redefined charity as UT knows it. Staffed mainly by members of P.E.A.C.E., the event's goal raising funding for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, but in a unique way.

Growing up in Kingston, Jamaica, UT sophomore Ryan Thompson often came home from playing soccer crying in pain to his mother. "Our area is dangerous and I would come home late with cuts and bruises," Thompson said. "We shared the same bed together, so she experienced my pain with me.

Active Minds is a new organization on campus that wants to inform others about mental illnesses and the misconceptions surrounding them. About one in four college students have a mental health issue, and even the individual's closest friends are often unaware of their problem.

She's a 10-foot tall, 2,000 pound, $400,000 gold and turquoise beauty. Her name is 'Lady Justice,' and she's helping New York artist Audrey Flack defy all traditions. "I'm familiar with justice having a balance scale," said UT senior Victoria Altz, who commented on the sculpture.

A 2006 UT graduate who is now a high school teacher was arrested last week and charged with having sex with a 16-year-old student. Christina Butler, 33, was a history major and biology minor who began teaching at Middleton High School in August. She was arrested Oct.23 and charged with felony lewd and lascivious battery. The next morning, she was released from Hillsborough County jail on $7,500 bail, and the school board suspended her with pay until further notice, records show. A stakeout for car thieves in Tampa last week led police to Christina Butler's vehicle, which was borrowed by the student and five of his friends, a report indicated.

Over a year ago a controversial sex scandal emerged from Durham, NC. The two parties involved were an African-American female stripper and three white male members of the then top-ranked Duke University Lacrosse team. Before any other statements were made known, race was already a factor in this case from the previous disclosed remark.

Three hundred UT seniors are heading to Channelside this Friday, April 13 to partake in the senior cruise. However, an estimated 500 other seniors will have to find their own getaway due to the limited capacity of the cruise. "The cruise is limited to 300 students because that is the capacity that the Yacht Star Ship has imposed on us," said Senior Congress Representatives Miranda Peterson and Cara Ponticelli in a statement to The Minaret.

Limited dining options, a closed gym and no computer lab access were a few of the things students who stayed on campus experienced over their spring break. "I felt like I was being forced out," said UT sophomore Roman Cowan. Cowan is from Jamaica and didn't get a chance to go home this spring break.

As most students slept on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 29, University of Tampa freshman Natasha Sackett fought for her life after a car hit her scooter on Kennedy Boulevard in front of UT. Now four months after her accident, Sackett is still battling. The accident left her with two severe breaks in one leg, a brain injury, substantial facial fractures and a lacerated liver.
