The No. 3 University of Tampa Spartans knocked home four goals, while Ryan Thompson secured his second shutout of the season as UT took down the Florida Moccasins by the score of 4-0.
Four different Spartans scored goals in the victory. The first goal scored by Lister Warren, which came in the 16th minute. The goal came just six yards from the net as Warren put it home off of a cross from, National Player of the Year candidate, Pascal Milien. It was Warren’s fourth goal on the year. The assist was Milien’s first of the season, but would not be his only one in the game.
In the 29th minute of the first half Milien drove down the center of the field and as he came to the top of the box passed off to freshman Brian Fekete. Fekete scored, bringing his goal total to two on the season.
The Spartans were not done; they would add one more goal before entering the second period of play. Senior, defender, Zach Fraser scored his first goal of his collegiate career in the 39th minute. His shot came from 40 yards out, along the far sideline. The looping shot fooled Florida Southern goal keeper Paul DiPalma as the ball was just out of reach of his outstretch arms and found the top left corner of the net.
In the second half Tampa picked up right where they left off. The team matched their first half total with nine shots, but were only able to manage one goal. Freshman Matt Davies took a pass from Greg O’Connor and snuck it past the replacement goal keeper Johan Jonsson for his first goal of the season to put the final at 4-0.
The win closes of a three-win week for the Spartans as they previously defeated Palm Beach Atlantic and Webber International. With the win Tampa improves to 9-0-1 (3-0 SSC) and the Moccasins fall to 1-8 (1-4 SSC).
Tampa will be back in action on Oct. 13 as they take on Eckerd, in the first of four conference road games. The Spartans will return home to Pepin Stadium on Oct. 26 as they compete in a non-conference game against Johnson & Wales at 7 p.m.
