The UT Department of Speech, Theatre and Dance is presenting “Little Women” in Falk theater all weekend.

UT’s performance will be directed by Michael Staczar, associate professor of speech and theatre. Tara Richards Swartzbaugh will direct the music, bringing the sights and sounds together on stage.

For at UT’s theatre department the cast is small consisting of only 10 members, but still plans to be a powerful rendition of Louisa May Alcott’s novel.

Although Staczar would have wanted to include more students in the production, the small cast allowed for such a “tight bond.”

“It is so obvious how much [the cast] cares and supports one another,” said Staczar.

The performance gives a fresh glimpse into the lives of the four March sisters living in Civil War-era America.

Staczar selected “Little Women,” as he feels he is very “conscious of women’s psyche” and has learned a great deal about their “drive for success,” especially from the character,

Staczar expects his audience to receive an exciting interpretation of an American classic novel, and hopes the musical will inspire students to read “Little Women.”

Show times are Thursday, April 24 through Saturday, April 26 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the door only.

UT students and faculty are free with ID. General Admission is $10 and for non-UT students and seniors, ticket are $5.
