Dark, thick eyebrows as well as light and glossy lips are some of the new trends to follow in the height of spring and promise of summer. | hugo971/Flickr.com
Your hair, your nails, your make-up, they’re all those uber annoying but oh so important things you must routinely tend to. Cosmetics are the little helpers that compliment you and put the finishing touches on an ensemble. The primping and prepping are all part of the packaged deal, aka your appearance. Bold brows, playful lips, ombre hair and dewy skin are some of the hottest beauty must haves.
Thick eyebrows are all the rage. While thinner brows were a staple of the 90s I am indeed a fan of the fuller look. To achieve a bolder brow you can either use a brow pencil or a combination of brow wax and powder. Eye brow wax, really? I know, but it really does work. I’m obsessed with Benefit cosmetics “Brow Zings.” The kit includes wax, powder, two brushes and tweezers.
The wax helps to shape and define your eyebrow while the powder helps them to stand out. This product is available in light, medium and dark allowing you to choose the best fit depending on the color of your brows. I love this product because it allows your brow to gain that full, runway look but is still natural.
To maximize this look, try pulling your hair back so that your brows are the focus of your face. One of the benefits to this particular beauty trend is it can be changed as fast as it appears. If you decide one day that you are so over the hefty hairs above your eyes you can just wax it off!
If I had to choose one beauty product that no girl should leave the house without it would be lip gloss. A little color on your lips can go a long way. What is a better way to show your appreciation for spring than eye-catching lips? From fire hydrant red to plum purple and everything in between, defined lips are a sight for sore eyes. Your lip color can help to describe your mood along with adding a dash of flair to your outfit. If you’re just going to class or lunch you may want a softer pink that is more glossy, but if you’re going to a cocktail party or a night out, you may want to put on a seductive red. You don’t even have to spend the cash on a new color. You can create a new hue by layering colors you already have to create the one that looks best. I have a medium toned pink gloss that I like to pair with a deep purple lipstick. But I must admit I am absolutely in love with my YSL Pure Watermelon lip gloss. It’s almost too summery for the beginning of April, but I don’t care because the coral color is that great!
You would have had to be on a complete media hiatus to not notice the ever-growing trend of ombre hair coloring. Ombre hair typically is styled with darker roots and practically blonde tips. This look has been popular among celebs like Drew Barrymore, Khloe Kardashian and Miley Cyrus to name a few. The look essentially is a head of hair with two different colors. It gives a vibe of, “yeah my roots have grown out so bad they look good.”
To correctly achieve this look I suggest leaving a good portion of your hair its natural color. Of course the extremity of this look varies all depending on how light you want the ends to be. While I would normally advise a product, when it comes to this trend, let a professional handle this style. I don’t want to think about what ombre gone wrong looks like.
Leaving the house with dry skin has never been acceptable and almost everyone can agree with me on that. You want your face to look rejuvenated and glowing, also known as dewy. But this beauty trend is a tad harder to accomplish because there is a fine line between dewy and shiny. You don’t want to over do it, no pun intended.
Dewy skin can be achieved a few different ways. For starters if you have naturally dry skin, then you absolutely need to start using a hydrating moisturizer. But the easiest way to create this look is by misting your face with water before and after you apply your makeup. This helps to set the makeup in place. Just make sure you hold the bottle a fair distance away from your face.
I would suggest Evian mineral water, sold at Sephora. A mist or two of this water helps to replenish skin while also helping to give your makeup that long last. If water isn’t cutting it try using a tinted moisturizer or foundation that is a shade darker than the rest of your face and apply it along your cheekbones. Place it onto the apples of your cheeks all the way up almost to your hairline. Apply with a makeup brush or sponge rather than finger tips so the majority of the moisturizer goes on your face. The purpose of this dewy look is to appear as if your skin is healthy yet radiant.
