
President Obama and VP Biden are coming to UT on Thursday, Jan. 27. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and the event starts at 12:30 p.m.
Daytime classes have been canceled on Thursday as President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will hold a town hall meeting in Martinez Sports Center according to a Global Message from University of Tampa President Ronald Vaughn.
The visit on Thursday, Jan. 28 will be the first after Obama’s State of the Union address on Wednesday evening. The visit will also be the first time a sitting President and Vice President has come to UT in nearly eight decades.
Attendance to the event is free and open to the public. The doors will open at 10:30 a.m. and the event is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Some tickets have been reserved for faculty, staff and students. Tickets for students are being handled by the Dean of Students office. Faculty can make their requests with the The Provost’s office. Staff can contact the Office of Human Resources. .
Ticket distribution for the general public will be on Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Martinez Sports Center on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Global Message said that some campus operations will be disrupted on Thursday but campus will be open. Classes will resume at 5 p.m. that same day.
On Thursday, the Martinez Sports Center will be closed for usual business. Parking and access to the West Parking Garage will be not be available starting on Wednesday evening and last until Thursday afternoon. North Boulevard will be closed between Kennedy Boulevard and Cass Street before and during the vent according to the Tampa Police Department.
