Shutout Earned in First Tampa Start

Posted October 08 2009 at 1:02 am

The No.3 University of Tampa Spartans extended their unbeaten streak to nine games as they defeated Webber International by the score of 1-0.

In his first start for Tampa junior goal keeper Clete Goddard turned in a five save shutout performance securing the victory for UT.

The Spartans tallied nine shots on goal in the contest, but only one found the back of the net as National Player of the Year candidate Pascal Milien scored his eighth goal of the season, assisted by Mike Bethel.

The lone goal was scored in the 29th minute of the matchup and was enough to hold off the Warriors. The game featured ten fouls, four on Tampa and six against Webber, but there were zero caution cards handed out by the referee.

Tampa will be in action on Oct. 9 as they look to defeat Florida Southern for the ninth victory on the year.
