UT Student Passes Away after Hyde Park Ave Motorcycle Crash

UPDATE:

William King, a 23-year-old University of Tampa’ student, passed away at Tampa General Hospital’ after suffering serious injuries in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday afternoon.

‘It’s just so unfortunate that this happened,’ Dean of Students’ Bob Ruday said. ‘Here we lost a graduating senior.’

Ruday said that both parents arrived at the hospital and are spending time with King.

‘Our deepest sympathies go out to the family,’ Ruday said.

According to Janelle McGregor, Tampa Police Department media relations assistant, officers were dispatched at 2:52 p.m. on Wednesday’ to the scene of the crash.

Patricia Sewell, 73, was traveling east on Grand Central Avenue when she was struck by a motorcycle driven by King, who was traveling south on Hyde Park Avenue, when he crashed into Sewell’s Toyota pick-up truck.’ The crash occured at the intersection of the two streets. King was reportedly not wearing a helmet.

It is with great sadness that I inform you that William H. King, III, a communication major and graduating senior, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, as a result of injuries that he sustained in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday.’ ‘ We extend our deepest sympathies to William’s family and friends.

We mourn William’s passing, and grief counselors are available by appointment for all students through the Student Health and Counseling Center (253-6250).

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.’ Written expressions of sympathy will be received in my office, Plant Hall 124, Box C, for the next week.
