TPD: UT Student Raped by Non-Student Acquaintance

A UT student reported being raped Sunday by a friend of her ex-boyfriend, according to reports by the Tampa Police Department and Campus Safety.

The Minaret has chosen not to announce which dorm was involved in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The suspect, who is not a student, is described as a white male with short, dark hair. He was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

Students can report any information to Campus Safety ‘amp; Security at extension 3333 or from off-campus, at 813-251-5133.

According to the Safety and Security Web site, students can help protect themselves by

  • Being aware of their surroundings and other people.
  • Communicating to friends and/or acquaintances when they are in an uncomfortable situation.
  • Feel confident in saying ‘no’ or taking other measures to protect their personal safety.
  • Report immediately any unusual behavior or suspicious persons to the UT Campus Safety ‘amp; Security Department.
  • Not hesitating to talk with their Resident Assistant, Head Resident or Area Coordinator about any issues or concerns.
  • Call the L.A.S.E.R. Team or Campus Safety ‘amp; Security officers for an escort.
